Thinking of a new fireplace?

We often receive requests to update fireplaces, usually for an adaptation to gas in place of wood-burning units. While doing our designing we also consider the surrounding area and may suggest changes to the materials and uses of those spaces. Those changes may include covering brick with tile, adding bookcases, art niches, or a place for a flat screen television. There are so many possibilities and we enjoy transforming those spaces into showcases of innovative design! Check out our gallery of fireplaces.

This wall (above) was formerly covered floor to ceiling in a dark red brick. We covered the brick with drywall, added the blue granite slab onto the floor and wall with a cutout for the gas fireplace. The shallow mantel has LED lighting to illuminate the granite. The upper wall is lit by a track light to show the owner’s collection of botanical art prints.

The previous fireplace design detracted from the look of the living room (right) so we redesigned it using slate tile and cherry cabinetry. The room now has a coziness to it that is very inviting at any time of the year.

Goldner fireplace 2While remodeling the adjacent kitchen (above) we added this fireplace with bookshelves and art niche. The owners and their guests can now enjoy the warmth of the hearth while cooking, and their dogs love curling up in a chair in front of the fire!

This corner fireplace (right) features turned wood posts that match the adjacent cabinetry and a large, deep mantle for art display. Recessed lights behind the arch illuminate the owner’s art.
